Twitter Secret Santa

This is the amazing gift I got from Twitter Secret Santa in 2020

Postage Stamps 1985-1989 ‘Native Birds’

Handstitched to vintage linen, mounted on harakeke paper and bordered with rauru.

“I make the paper and rauru from a flax bush in my garden. The linen came from my great grandmother. Every work I make is individual.”

Opening day! #SecretSantaNZ2020

A handmade card, with what looks like a photo Santa took themselves #SecretSantaNZ2020

This is embarrassing… Santa, you didn’t have to give money, the artwork is truly amazing and I love it so much. Handmade paper and rauru and great-grandmother’s linen, that’s completely special.

Nathan I had already made the artwork as my ‘Secret Santa’ gift but on reflection it may not be what you like. So I give you the gift of re-gifting if so :) Spend the $10 on yourself- chocolate, peanut butter, beer, whatever floats your boat. I’ve added this description of the artwork.

Artwork - Postage Stamps 1985-89 ‘Native Birds’

handstitched to vintage linen, mounted on harakeke paper & bordered wih rauru.

I make the paper from a flax bush in my garden. The linen came from my great grandmother. Every work I make is individual.

I hope you & your whanau have a great christmas together.

Warmest regards, LC

The kakapo is perfect. I was recently in a video call with people planning to write a book (Python from R, actual title TBD) and we introduced ourselves with our spirit animal… #SecretSantaNZ2020

I said the kakapo, because I’m from NZ, it’s on the cover of another book @R4DScommunity and it won Bird of the Year #SecretSantaNZ2020

Hand crafted paper and rauru is amazing. I’ve made paper before, most notably for my sister’s 21st memory book, and have cross stitched for secret santa before (including this year! Hopefully that doesn’t reveal me). #SecretSantaNZ2020

It’s a small piece of linen (literally postage stamp size!) but that’s very meaningful coming from a great-grandmother. That’s a story for another time. #SecretSantaNZ2020

I’m so grateful, thank you Santa #SecretSantaNZ2020

The care taken with mounting and taping and everything, amazing
